Why I Chose Algiers Over Paris… And Fell in Love Instantly

Paris What ... Algiers got you

I once thought Paris was the ultimate escape… then I stepped into Algiers, and the city smiled at me in a way no Eiffel Tower ever could.

From the moment I landed, I felt it the warmth of the people, the gentle chaos of streets alive with stories, and a city that seems to whisper, “Welcome home, cousin.”

Algeria isn’t just theirs; it’s ours too, they told me with pride. And for a wanderer like me, it felt like someone had opened a door I didn’t even know I was knocking on.

The only tricky part? That pesky visa. But once it was in my hands, everything else felt natural, effortless… like I had finally found my groove.

Sleep Where You’re Loved

First things first book a hotel that gives you free breakfast. Money saved = more croissants? Just kidding. In Algiers, it’s mint tea and warm pastries that’ll make your morning. I stayed in a family-owned hotel that embraced me like a lost cousin visiting grandma.

From the chef’s smile to the bed-making crew who somehow made my pillow feel like a hug, it was perfection. Hotel Best Night 2 cost $67 on Expedia, and from what I saw, honeymooners love it here, too.

Bonus: I spotted not one, but two brides in full wedding dress bliss on the elevator. Happy vibes only.

Your Tour Guide = Secret Weapon

Next: hire a local guide. Mr. Sameer knows Algiers inside out. English isn’t his strongest suit, but Google Translate bridges the gap. His knowledge turned confusing streets into magical adventures. Tip: write down his number yes, I’ll share it next week.

A Taste of History & Flavor

I ate at a restaurant opened in the 1940s. The lights? Dreamy. The food? Mind-blowing. The white downtown buildings shimmered at night, Notre Dame’s antique cathedral watched over the streets, and Sidi Fredj port hummed with life.

At Jardin d’Essai du Hamma (Hamma Botanical Garden), exotic plants, fountains, and sweeping views made me stop and just breathe. Waves crashed at Decaplage Beach, the mall was buzzing, and the Casbah? Pure magic.

Travel tip: don’t forget your camera. Trust me.

Next week, I’ll reveal the streets, smells, and secret corners that made me fall in love with Algiers your solo travel adventure starts here. From hidden cafés to panoramic rooftop views, this city will surprise you at every turn.

Stay tuned. Pack lightly. And bring your sense of wonder.
Pennywise with your passport, foolish with your heart… Algiers is waiting.
